I think most Worlds have three types of voters when it comes to the Hall of Fame
1. Favor hitting stats over all else
2. Want to vote for the best all-around player taking into account Awards, Fielding and maybe to a lesser degree Post Season Success
3. This is hopefully the smallest group, the group that doesn’t really care and sometimes doesn’t even vote
With our most recent vote having ended not long ago with zero player getting elected I thought it would be a good time to look back at the eligible players, how many votes they got and who if any of them deserve a longer look next season if they are still on the ballot
Group One: Almost Got It
Calvin Tanaka just missed out with 16 Votes. He would be the second best RF in the Hall. He was a plus defender with incredible power. He deserves to be in next year
Brandon Hardy with 13 votes Hardy came pretty close. People are sold on his great defensive numbers but not so much his bat. I see Hardy as a fringe HOF, he would be the weakest CF in the Hall.
Gerald Feng somehow managed 11 votes. He would be the worst 1st baseman in the Hall. Homers alone won’t get him into the HOF
Group Two: We Really Deserve Your Votes
Kensuke Martin only picked up 3 votes, and I know one of them was me. He would slide into about the middle of the pack among career third basemen. Top notch defense and a great base stealer.
Wiki Fuentes another smooth fielder with good speed. He would be bottom end of the 2nd baggers But his plus defense at 2nd and LF make him a deserving candidate
Sawyer Watkins He would just be the 2nd Catcher in the Hall as we have passed over several solid options in previous seasons. By no means a Pedro Johnson he was great Catcher and we need to start expanding our ideas when it comes to who is deserving.
Chad Scherzer We tend to overlook players with Speed in favor of power bats. Scherzer was an incredible table setter, 700 career steals, 1000 career walks with over 1500 career runs. A bit of a dud with the glove but that hasn’t stopped us from voting in worse players
Group Three: Stop Voting for Us Please
Bubba Marlette Yes Bubba had some great power seasons, Yes Bubba stole his fair share of bases. But he was a DH/Horrible 1st baseman. He would be not only the weakest DH in the HOF but the weakest player overall.
Yunesky Nieves This powerful speedy OF has some pretty impressive career numbers. He also struck out almost twice as often as he walked and is perhaps the worst defensive corner outfielder this world has ever seen
Group Four: The Pitchers
Abraham Edmonds picked up the most votes of all the pitchers with 8 while he was the best SP up for votes he would without a doubt be the worst SP we would have inducted.
Damaso Solarte and Otis Rivera The two bullpen type arms. Both make a fairly strong cases for their induction as we only have three Closers in the Hall to date. Solarte did his best work closing out games while Rivera was more of a jack of all trades saving 200+ games winning almost 100 and throwing over 1600 innings while never starting a game
