The Every Other Player All-Star Team

So we have seen the All-Star team that the Hall Of Fame is putting out to play, how about the All Star team of everyone else?

Leadoff: Chad Scherzer DH    6 X AS,  5 X SS   What Chad couldn’t do with the glove he made up for with his skills on the bases. Scherzer averaged 47 steals a season while also being good for double digit homers and a .290 average.  Strong case for him to get into the HOF next season

Batting Second:  Derek McDowell 2nd  10 X AS, 1 X MVP, 5 X SS, 5 x GG 2nd and CF    A huge oversight that this guy didn’t get into the HOF. A fairly short career but at his peak was as good as any player in Glavine. The best fielding 2nd baseman this league has ever seen with 169+ Plays as well as 56 in CF in just 355 games. Could he hit?  Yes, an average season for him was 23 homers 70 RBI 16 steals and a 293 AVG with a 390 OBP

The Man the Myth the Monster: Deven Posada C 10 X AS, 4 X MVP, 10 X SS, 2 X HR Derby Champ  First ballot hall of famer who will probably hold most catching records and several offensive records by the time he retires. Solid defense and his ability to just rake at the plate make him perhaps the most valuable player this world has ever seen. Average season 45HR 125 RBI 296AVG- 371OBP

Cleanup: Leyson Owen   LF  ROY, 3 X MVP, 12 x AS, 12 X SS  Just in time for Christmas I bring you the most decorated player I could find. Will soon hit his 600th career homer. This switch hitter has been a beast since he joined the league. An average season is an incredible 46-120 with 33 Steals, 296 AVG and 405 OBP. Just an average LF he is a great 1st baseman.

#5: Calvin Tanaka RF  7 x AS, 2 x MVP 1 X GG (1st) 4 x SS Just missed out on the HOF this season. Another monster bat in this lineup the 6’5 switch-hitting tower of power was a solid COF and incredible 1st baseman. 40+ homers a season with 10 steals and a 283 AVG.

Here Comes the King: Turner King CF  1 X MVP, 6 x AS, 7 x SS, 2 X GG CF  Will be coming up for HOF vote next season and should be a lock. One of the smoothest CF’ers with a career high 33 + Plays in season ’43. Great with the stick as well, a 38-101 and 11 steals would be a fairly average season.

This 7 looks like a 1: Esteban Palmeiro 1st  5 X AS, 1 x GG, 1 X SS    Fourth all time in the world in stolen bases Palmeiro could hit pretty good as well.  22 homers 75 RBI and 59 steals, make Esteban perhaps the most dynamic 1st baseman ever

The Week Hitting #8: Gio Romero  SS  7 X AS, 5 X SS   I think we missed another HOFer here. Gio was a solid fielding SS who ranks among the league leaders for most things SS (Double Plays, Assists, Putouts). Add on a ++ bat with almost 2500 career hits and 500 steals he probably should have gotten a better result when it was time to vote

Last but not least: Jayson North 3rd    8 X AS, 5 x SS, 1 X GG Another guy who just missed out on the HOF. North was a scrappy, hustle kind of player who finished his career with almost 3000 hits and 400 steals. He played an excellent 3rd base and was serviceable at SS if needed. Kind of a young Paul Molitor type, 15 homers 25 steals and 280 AVG.

The Bench

Catcher: Chase Thornnton C  10 X AS, 9 X SS  Still playing Chase looks like a lock for the HOF as he has one of the highest career OBP in the history of Glavine. Solid but not flashy with the glove he wins the job over JD Shelley who was a more offensive minded Catcher

The Outfielder Joe Sheets   CF  ROY, 3 x GG, 4 X AS   Best defensive season saw him rack up 22 OF assists and 30 + plays.  Offensively had two seasons where he hit over 50 homers  and 4 more with 40+

The Slickest of Slick: Takuya Tuiasosopo   SS  2 x AS, 9 X GG  The greatest fielding SS of all time. Can also mash 25 homers a season. I think he should get into the HOF with his glove alone

The Fourth Man: Kensuke Martin 3rd     ROY, 7 x AS, 2 x SS  So many options with this last bench spot. I went with the guy I wanted to shine a little more light on from this years Vote.  Martin was incredible 3rd baseman who could also steal 40 bases. Also had solid pop with 465 career doubles and 304 homers.

I actually like this lineup better then the HOF lineup. More team speed and better defense at almost every position.  Not to much I probably over looked a dozen or so players.  Who do you think should be on this team?

Can a Gang of DITR’s Really be Difference Makers?

Take a look at the below list of some of the better positional players that have or will make it to the Big Leagues in this World.  It is common knowledge that a DITR at the C position has a higher probability of making the Big Leagues than other positions.  The below list is no exception.  Players like Matt Flair and SantiagoDelgado stick out in this bunch.  However, one thing that people miss is that a good infielder that can give you just enough at the plate can really help out a pitching staff.  A guy like NashHawkins at 2b or 3b helps the pitching staff while still offering enough at the plate.

Now take a look at the below list of pitchers.  Obviously, the list is longer.  Both relief pitchers and starting pitchers can come out of DITR as an effective pitcher.  Typically, the starting pitcher is effective because he has 3+ MLB pitches that he can deploy that allows him to go deep in games.  Typically, a relief pitcher has a high velocity, split and/or P1/P2 that allow him to be effective.

These are some of the best DITR players in the World.  Imagine if you found a way to cultivate players like this on a consistent basis.  If a player like one of these could be development every other season, how much of a difference would it make?

Hall of Fame All-Star Team The Pitching Rotation

How do you put together a Pitching Rotation of Hall of Famers when you only have three relief pitchers?

Don’t worry about the Bullpen…Your starters are going DEEP!!!

The Starters:

The Ace: Danny Cummings 13 x AS, 12 x CY  The most decorated pitcher in our world, you need a win this guy would get it for you. 9 Seasons with over 20 wins and a career ERA of 2.58 in over 3700 Innings. Somehow also had double digits RBI’s in three seasons.

The Aces Sidekick:  Marcus Bagley 13 X AS, 8 X CY, ROY   If there is a 1B to Cummings 1A its Bagley.  A inning eater that had excellent control. Didn’t rack up the K’s like Danny but still managed over 3000 in his career. 7 season with 20+ wins and 14 seasons with over 230 innings.

The Lefty:  Cy Taubensee  13 X AS, 5 X CY   I always feel every Rotation needs two lefties and this team starts with a doozy.  Winning 20+ games in 7 seasons while having a Career ERA of 2.78 and a WHIP of just 1.05. Also drove in 106 runs in his career while batting a solid .191

The Workhorse:  Luis Schoop   11 X AS, 4 CY   The worlds leader in strikeouts (4008)   is the opposite of CY in many ways. The master of winning games 5-4 with lots of homers and strikeouts. Standing 6’7 he cast an intimidating figure on the mound and with this team would be an ideal back end starter

The Other Lefty: Harry Goodwin   11 X AS, 2 X CY, 2 x SS    The second lefty in this squad. Crafty but also adapt at racking up K’s. Only one losing season in his career. Rookie Season 12-14 with a 3.33 ERA

The Bullpen:

The Closer: Luis Pena   11 X AS, 9 X FM, 1 X CY   There has only been 3 Closers elected into our Hall of Fame, and Pena leads the way. 710 Career saves would give him an average season of 39 saves while also having two seasons with an ERA under 0.75

The Setup Man: Zeus Driskill   11 AS, 3 X FM  Another Lefty reliever Driskill would be an ideal Setup pitcher with the ability to pitch almost every day. The Mighty Zeus averaged almost a strikeout every inning while picking up over 500 saves.

The High Leverage Man: Heinie Christman  6 X AS, 4 X FM  Even though Christman racked up 431 Saves on this team he gets slotted into the 7th inning where his ability to pitch multiple innings will come in handy. Career OAV of .200 with a peek season in 31 where batters only hit .142 Against him

The Guy Who Closed Once: Louis Mitchell  10 X AS  4 X CY 2 X GG    Mitchell was a dominate Starter for most of his career. 268 wins, 3390 K’s with a 1.10 WHIP. In ’43 he moved to the pen and saved 36 games so is one of the few Hall of Famers with a track record for pitching in relief.

Mr Awards:  Tony Cordero   11 X AS, 4 X CY 1 ROY    Not a lot of Bullpen experience but Tony was the most decorated player remaining to choose from. 3:1 K:BB Career ratio the Lefty Cordero would be a solid option as a specialist to work around tough parts of the order

Strikeout Machine: Albert Jose  7 x AS, 1 x CY    Jose actually picked up 16 saves in his career, while also having 10 seasons with over 200 K’s.   One of the best K’s per Innings pitched in the World, would be a dominate reliever

The Secret Weapon: Cy Duran  7 X AS, 3 X CY     In a must win situation every team needs a guy they can turn to. Duran is a post season pro. 23-11 in 44 Post season starts with a 2.38 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.

This team probably only needs 10 Pitchers, but then again they probably only need 9 batters as well

Next up, can we put together a team of players not in the Hall of Fame that could put up a fight against these Legends?

What if? Hall Of Fame All-Star Team

What if we were in a fictional baseball league, filled with Fictional baseball players?

What if in that fictional league there was a fictional Hall of Fame filled with those fictional Players?

What if using those fictional hall of fame players we picked the best of the best to make a Hall of Fame All-Star team?

Yes it sounds like a What if…on steroids. But that’s exactly what I have done. Combing thru the Hall of Fame for the players that would make up the 25 Man roster to end all rosters

Here is your Glavine 300 Hall of Fame/All-Star Team

Leadoff: B.C. Santiago CF, the 10 time All-Star, MVP, ROY and 11 Time Silver Slugger would be an excellent table setter. An average season from BC would be something like 12 homers 60 RBI, 50 steals and a 311 AVG with a 374 OBP. While he never won a GG in CF he finished his career with 117 Plus plays against 17 Negative plays. He would not need a defensive sub late in games as he would be the anchor to this team in the OF

In the 2 spot:  Benito Miranda 2nd, kind of a this worlds Dustin Pedroia. On a team full of players that were probably Captains on their teams…he would be the Captain of Captains. With a .311 AVG-.391 OBP to go with 17 Homers and 21 steals a season he is the perfect kind of bat in the two hole. If you get distracted by Santiago on base Miranda will make you pay. Batted .315 in the playoffs in over 700 AB’s Miranda was clutch. A solid glove man at 2nd. Could come out for a defensive wizard in a tight game

The Three-Hole: Renyel Franco  1st, 12x AS, 3 X GG, 8 X SS, 6 X MVP, 3 X HRD Champ. I will go on record right now and say that Franco is in the top three batters in this league ever.  An excellent 1st baseman, could have played RF and maybe even 3rd for a good chunk of his career. His average offensive season is a MVP worthy 35 HR-105 RBI 7 steals with a .346 AVG and .432 OBP.  This switch hitter is the ideal 3 Hole hitter and doesn’t need to come out for defence or a runner late in the game

Cleanup: Esteban Tatis DH,  9 x AS, 5 X MVP, ROY.   820 career homers and over 2000 career RBI. Tatis is a monster at the plate. Luckily we are having a DH as he was brutal at 1st base. Tatis would smack 55 homers and drive in 139 Runs in a typical year while batting .306 with a .383 OBP.

The RBI Men 5th:  AlbertBarrios 3rd 11 X AS, 3 X MVP, 10 X SS.  Not much need for an RBI guy after Tatis bats, more like a guy to get on base and restart the batting order.  Albert is that guy. With the ability to hit 40 homers and steal 20+ bases will batting close to 300 and an OBP just below .400   His defence at 3rd is a little below AVG  so a late inning slide to LF or RF would help the team late in games.

RBI Man-2 6th:  David Molina RF  10 X AS 2 X MVP 9 X SS  Another Monster Left Handed hitting bat in this lineup. Molina would be good for 46HR-130RBI along with 11 Steals and a .317 AVG. Had a plus arm in RF picking up double digit assist numbers several times. Was prone to mental lapses from time to time and could use a defensive Sub to be on the safe side.

And Batting 7th:  Joel Gomes LF  6 X AS, 2 X MVP, 3 X SS, 1 X GG-LF   One of the few players on this team with a Gold Glove, albeit for his play in LF. Gomes could run fairly well but was best known as a power bat. 40 Homers and 113 RBI would be a normal season for him.

#8:  Pedro Johnson C 8 X AS, 7 SS. It took until season 47 to elect a Catcher to the Hall of Fame team. Pedro is a real winner though.  A Career .326 hitter with an OBP over 400 Johnson was mostly known for his bat. While he did play in a whole boatload of games as a catcher he often came out late for rest or a defensive sub. Hopefully this team can provide him with a solid back up?

The Weakest Bat? #9: Bob Drew SS 9X AS, 3 X GG 2 X SS. Two years before the only catcher went into the hall we elected the only SS.  Drew is probably the 2nd best fielding SS to play for any length of time in our league.  Not a bad guy to have hitting last as he could blast 35 or so homers while stealing 7 bases a year.

THE BENCH

Catcher?: DT May  3rd  7 x AS, 4 x SS at 3rd and SS.  Like I said before only one true catcher has ever been elected into our Hall of Fame. Therefore we get DT May…he somehow caught 40 innings at the big league level, throwing out 50% of runners with an ERA of 2.66   May was a plus defender at 3rd and 2nd and could handle SS for a few innings if needed.  Plus speed and power make him a perfect jack of all trades for this team.

Power off the Bench: Willie Merced 1st, 7 X AS, 5 X MVP, ROY, 5 X SS  You could honestly flip a coin between Merced and Tatis as your DH. Merced was actually a stronger fielder and baserunner so probably has more value off the bench…even though he could never play anything more then 1st base.  Off the bench you are looking at about 11 homers in 125 AB’s

The Wizard of OZ:  Oswaldo Redondo  3rd 10 X AS, 2 x MVP, 8 x SS, 2 x GG 2nd and 1st. We have not elected many players known for their gloves. The Wizard though was one of the few…Could handle everything from SS down to 1st base in his prime. Chalking up 117 plus plays at his primary position of 3rd base. Also a fairly dynamic offensive player as he had a season with over 50 homers and 30 steals.

The Thief:  BC Julio 2nd,  5 X AS, 2 x MVP 4 X SS  Julio ran his way into the Hall. 1000 Career steals and 1500 Career runs. A good walk guy as well, with almost as many walks as strikeouts, he sported a .386  OBP at the end of his career. Mostly played a bad second base but could slide to the COF to help late in games.

From top to bottom a very solid gathering of Batters. And of course they should be…they are in the Hall of Fame.  Anyone you think I unfairly left off?  Let me know in the comments section.
