Once again I have decided to go through our Hall of Fame Ballot to try and take a deeper look at who you might want to cast your vote for. I use a point system that rewards players for Single Season achievements, career milestones, Awards, All Star games and even defensive stats while rewarding players who played tougher positions (ie SS/C/CF/3rd/2nd).
This is
just my formula and can not be taken as an exact science. I will sort the players by Primary Major
League position for easy comparison
DH: We
currently have 1 DH in the hall of fame Giomar Andujar, he was voted in season
49 and scored 213 with my formula due in
large part to his negative defensive score.
BubbaMarlette: He got 7 votes last season so clearly has some fans. He scored very
close to Andujar with 211. He was a huge
power hitter and even had the ability to steal some bases. I guess if you are
good with Andujar in the Hall than you are okay with Bubba
1st:
We have 8 first baseman in the HOF now with the best being Reynel Franco (669)
and the worst Ed Hitchcock (239)
Gerald Feng
picked up 11 Votes last season, he was another big power bat that won himself
an MVP but was also a negative on the defensive side limiting his score to 216
RJ Tarraga
is a potentially deserving vote getter, last season he did get 8. His score is 290 which by no means is high
for 1st baseman its much closer to meeting my standards.
Brett Knorr1 vote last season and a score of 261. Once again a little on the low side for
a vote from me. He was a tremendous base stealer therefor probably doesn’t get
the love that other 1st/COF type power hitters get.
2nd:
We have 8 second basemen in the hall with scores ranging from 534, Benito
Miranda and 396, Joe O’Keefe.
WikiFuentes (374) Zack Swann (354) Kelly Cone (320) Zachery Perez (285) all picked
up at least one vote last season. But beyond Fuentes I don’t see any of them
ever getting the call from Cooperstown.
Fuentes was
a great base stealer who had surprising power (375 Homers-479 Doubles) who
played solid defense even winning himself a Gold Glove for his work in LF
SS: Only
one of these in the HOF Bob Drew who scored 381 thanks in large part to his
great glove work and solid power
Sadly we
only have one nominee who called SS home, Carlos Leon, while Carlos was a very
solid power hitter, especially for a SS (496 homers) he did only steal 1 base
his entire career and when not playing 2nd/3rd he was
actually pretty bad with the glove (77 Negative plays at SS and CF). He will
not be getting my vote.
3rd: 6 are currently in the HOF, with Albert
Barrios taking the top spot (570) and DT May
(348) the bottom.
KensukeMartin only picked up 3 votes last year but according to me is very deserving
with a score of 387 that puts him comfortably in the top 4 of all Third
basemen. The power was never anything special, though 304 Homers aren’t bad. He
stole almost 600 bases and scored over 1500 Runs, all the while playing
exceptional defense making 154 Positive plays at 3rd base
John Won
was a big vote getter last season (8) and for good reason, he hit 607 Homers
but beyond that didn’t do much. He struck out almost 2000 times as was a bad
fielder at any position except 1st base. While his score is 294. I
will not be voting for him
Russ Root
was another very good power hitter that could field the position very well but
lacks the accolades and awards that the other nominees have, his total score is
259.
Centerfield:
Three in the Hall BC Santiago (677) Elmer Stocker (473) Santo Toca (350)
We have
some interesting nominees this season with Turner King a first time guy getting
a lot of early love. King scores 406 with my formula on the back of great power
(569 Homers) and great defense (192+ plays at CF) . He also has a closet full
of awards.
BrandonHardy almost got in last season (13 Votes)
He was a wiz with the glove…but probably only slightly better then
King….if even that. He lacks the offensive numbers from Turner and therefore
only scores a 297
ErnestJensen and Jesus Urbina were fine players as well but fall short of being Hall
Of Famers
Right
Field: There are only three RF’s in the
Hall right now ranging from David Molina (525) to Cesar Campos (294)
CalvinTanaka was one vote shy last season, he was solid fielder as far as COF go and
was a tremendous hitter finishing his career with an OPS of 909. My score for
him is 376.
ChadScherzer, score 342 is another strong contender for getting my vote. Stealing
744 bases he was a great table setter while also sporting a OBP of 372
Left Field:
5 in the Hall Joel Gomes (488) all the way down to Tike Dykstra (205)
WayneYashian is the only player worth talking about this year as he scored a solid
298. He was good with the bat (284 AVG-402 Homers) and good on the bases (238
steals) while also being a plus defender in LF. Has an outside chance at
getting my vote.
Catchers: Pedro
Johnson is our on Catcher in the Hall of Fame, score (515)
BobbyThomas (389) I think is very deserving of getting a vote this season (389) Lots
of awards and some great hitting numbers (2400 Hits, 363 Homers and a very good
281 AVG.)
SawyerWatkins got two votes last season and his score sits at 350. Doesn’t have the
awards that Thomas has but was also great hitter, better then Thomas, but not
nearly as solid a fielder.
That’s it
for the batters, if I left anyone out its because they weren’t very good or
their careers were too short.
Starting
Pitchers:
I don’t see
anyone who is even close to being a Hall Of Fame
Relief
Pitchers: 3 in the Hall Currently
While OtisRivera and Pete Jang were amazing relief pitchers I am not sure they have the
numbers that will convince people to vote for them. I could be swayed to go for
Rivera if there was a groundswell of support for him
