Hall of Fame All-Star Team The Pitching Rotation

How do you put together a Pitching Rotation of Hall of Famers when you only have three relief pitchers?

Don’t worry about the Bullpen…Your starters are going DEEP!!!

The Starters:

The Ace: Danny Cummings 13 x AS, 12 x CY  The most decorated pitcher in our world, you need a win this guy would get it for you. 9 Seasons with over 20 wins and a career ERA of 2.58 in over 3700 Innings. Somehow also had double digits RBI’s in three seasons.

The Aces Sidekick:  Marcus Bagley 13 X AS, 8 X CY, ROY   If there is a 1B to Cummings 1A its Bagley.  A inning eater that had excellent control. Didn’t rack up the K’s like Danny but still managed over 3000 in his career. 7 season with 20+ wins and 14 seasons with over 230 innings.

The Lefty:  Cy Taubensee  13 X AS, 5 X CY   I always feel every Rotation needs two lefties and this team starts with a doozy.  Winning 20+ games in 7 seasons while having a Career ERA of 2.78 and a WHIP of just 1.05. Also drove in 106 runs in his career while batting a solid .191

The Workhorse:  Luis Schoop   11 X AS, 4 CY   The worlds leader in strikeouts (4008)   is the opposite of CY in many ways. The master of winning games 5-4 with lots of homers and strikeouts. Standing 6’7 he cast an intimidating figure on the mound and with this team would be an ideal back end starter

The Other Lefty: Harry Goodwin   11 X AS, 2 X CY, 2 x SS    The second lefty in this squad. Crafty but also adapt at racking up K’s. Only one losing season in his career. Rookie Season 12-14 with a 3.33 ERA

The Bullpen:

The Closer: Luis Pena   11 X AS, 9 X FM, 1 X CY   There has only been 3 Closers elected into our Hall of Fame, and Pena leads the way. 710 Career saves would give him an average season of 39 saves while also having two seasons with an ERA under 0.75

The Setup Man: Zeus Driskill   11 AS, 3 X FM  Another Lefty reliever Driskill would be an ideal Setup pitcher with the ability to pitch almost every day. The Mighty Zeus averaged almost a strikeout every inning while picking up over 500 saves.

The High Leverage Man: Heinie Christman  6 X AS, 4 X FM  Even though Christman racked up 431 Saves on this team he gets slotted into the 7th inning where his ability to pitch multiple innings will come in handy. Career OAV of .200 with a peek season in 31 where batters only hit .142 Against him

The Guy Who Closed Once: Louis Mitchell  10 X AS  4 X CY 2 X GG    Mitchell was a dominate Starter for most of his career. 268 wins, 3390 K’s with a 1.10 WHIP. In ’43 he moved to the pen and saved 36 games so is one of the few Hall of Famers with a track record for pitching in relief.

Mr Awards:  Tony Cordero   11 X AS, 4 X CY 1 ROY    Not a lot of Bullpen experience but Tony was the most decorated player remaining to choose from. 3:1 K:BB Career ratio the Lefty Cordero would be a solid option as a specialist to work around tough parts of the order

Strikeout Machine: Albert Jose  7 x AS, 1 x CY    Jose actually picked up 16 saves in his career, while also having 10 seasons with over 200 K’s.   One of the best K’s per Innings pitched in the World, would be a dominate reliever

The Secret Weapon: Cy Duran  7 X AS, 3 X CY     In a must win situation every team needs a guy they can turn to. Duran is a post season pro. 23-11 in 44 Post season starts with a 2.38 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.

This team probably only needs 10 Pitchers, but then again they probably only need 9 batters as well

Next up, can we put together a team of players not in the Hall of Fame that could put up a fight against these Legends?
