10. Al King-2nd Rnd/16th Pick Overall-Portland/San Fran-She
said-Only played 2 season in the Majors but pitched in 144 games and was a
somewhat dependable arm in that time. Very possibly the only player ever from
North Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin.
9. Rex Obermueller-1st Rnd/4th Pick-New
Orleans/Huntington-purplehaze54- A multi Gold Glove winner in the minors, his
defensive skills where his main strength in the majors as well, making 64+
plays at SS/CF/2nd combined. Only 1 career homer and 24 steals.
8. Tim Taylor-4th Rnd/25th Pick-Portland/San Fran-She
said-Another solid pick buy she said, The Tool Man, played for parts of 4
seasons. 170 games in his 1st two seasons with an ERA just over
4.00. A little surprised his career
didn’t last longer as a lefty specialist.
7. Darryl Hunter-1st Rnd/10th Pick-Syracuse/bdrose- Won 2 Gold
Gloves, even at LF that is nice from a Rule 5.
Also stole 70 bases in his career that was only three major league
seasons.
6. Vince Conti-2nd Rnd/21st Pick-Pittsburgh/verik22- a very solid
back up catcher, Conti did everything pretty well but not great. Best season
was in ’37 when he hit 11 homers with 36 RBI and a 269/348/451 Slash line
5. Dominic McGowan-1st Rnd/2nd Pick-Portland/San Fran-She said-
Another arm picked up by she said. McGowan was the best and worst when he was a
starting pitcher. In ’37 he went 10-10
with a 3.98 ERA, three seasons later he went 5-22 with a still respectable ERA
of 4.53
4. Bono Guilmet-5th Rnd/27th Pick-Portland/San Fran-She said- I
think she said may have been the only person picking this season…Bono in his
three seasons never had an ERA over 3.79 and saved 45 games in his 2 seasons as
a part time/fulltime closer.
3. Al Benitez-2nd Rnd/17th Pick-KC/Helena-olemiss33- Benny was
just outside a big time power bat for KC. He swatted between 27 and 34 homers
for 4 years straight. However his average hovered around .230 Was also not a very good fielder at any
position that was not connected to the bench
2. Brace Swann-1st Rnd/1st Pick-Atlanta/New York-rquin9- Bruce
“Stop looking at me” Swann was a fairly good RF for better part of ten seasons.
9 times he hit over 20 homers(topping out at 31). He finished his career with
almost 1700 hits and just shy of 600
Extra base hits.
1. Maicer Johnson-1st Rnd/12th Pick-Toledo/Rochester-bearclan1- MJ
made one all star team, but honestly could have been on a few extra. Saved 85%
of his chances while sporting a 3.54. A
bit of soft tosser he was none the less an effective reliever when given the
ball.
